Shrink tubes are typically used on small to medium wires before installation. A plastic tube is printed with identifying information; slipped over the end of the wire; and heated to shrink it.

Wire wraps are typically used for medium to large wires and cables. Wire wraps can be used after the wire or cable has been installed (see illustration to the right).
